Finalizing preparations and waiting for departure ...
Our flight departs from Dulles around 8am on Saturday, May 7th. After a connection in NYC and more than 16 hours in the air, we arrive in Cape Town, South Africa on Sunday, May 8th just after noon.
We're hoping to do our first in-country posting Sunday evening, but until then, below are a few interesting tidbits about South Africa to pique your interest.
Political System: South Africa is a constitutional democracy with a parliamentary government
Capital(s): Pretoria serves as the executive capital, and Cape Town, the legislative capital
Language: South Africa has 11 official languages. Fortunately one of them is English, since neither of us speak isiZulu ... or SiSwati.
Time Zone: Eastern Standard Time +6 hours
Temperature: Being in the Southern hemisphere, it is currently late fall in South Africa, with winter beginning in June.
