Not much in the way of highlights to provide today, as this was a travel day for us. The morning began in Addo Elephant National Park. The previous night, after our posting, we spent some time in the game blind watching for wildlife approaching the main watering hole near our rondavel. Though we didn't see anything, the sounds were amazing. We could here the barking of hyena's, or possibly jackals, in the distance and the snaps of twigs as animals made their way around us, away from the light. After spending nearly an hour scanning the bush for any movement, using hearing alone to sense the animals was a welcome change and a completely different way to experience the park.
We awoke early in the morning knowing from past experience that it often takes us much longer than it should to travel from Point A to Point B. Fortunately, we didn't have any problem on the way to Port Elizabeth and made it to the airport without incident. From Port E, we boarded our flight to Johannesburg and then a quick connection to the Kruger National Park Airport in Nelspruit.

The airport at Kruger is perfectly themed to match the destination. It is, quite literally, an african-style lodge on the outside with a working airport on the inside.

In most places this would probably be seen as over-the-top, but hey, it's Kruger National Park, if anywhere in the world can pull this off, they can.

From the airport, we picked up our car, and made our way to our hotel in Nelspruit, as Kruger Gates are only open from 6:00am to 5:30pm. Situated only 45 minutes from Kruger's Southern Gate of Malelane, we picked this location as it is the perfect launching point to enter the park at first light tomorrow.
We'll be up by 4:30am and on the road by 5:30am, with hopes of hitting the Gate just after sunrise. From there, we'll wind our way through the length of the Park to our camp on the Olifants River.
We're hoping for great game viewing tomorrow. Hopefully we'll have something more than airport pictures to share!
Until tomorrow,
Becky & Rachel
